The Public Health Educator II is assigned to the Occupational and Environmental Epidemiology Branch (OEEB), one of four branches within the Epidemiology Section, Division of Public Health, Department of Health and Human Services. The Public Health Educator II works for the Health Assessment, Consultation and Education (HACE) program funded by the federal Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry. The program's goal is to eliminate and/or reduce adverse health effects from exposure to environmental contaminants primarily at hazardous waste sites throughout the state. The primary purpose of the position is to lead the development and implementation of community-based health education programs to prevent exposure to environmental hazards at contaminated sites in NC. The Public Health Educator II works to assess individual, organizational, and community needs for environmental health education; plans and coordinates effective health education programs; evaluates the effectiveness of health education programs; acts as a resource person in health education; and communicates health and health education needs, concerns, and resources to diverse stakeholders. The Public Health Educator II assists with forming and maintaining partnerships with local health departments, builds coalitions, and encourages and strengthens community involvement to help reduce risks of exposure to environmental hazards.
